One of my biggest challenges as a sole proprietor was always organization. I couldn't keep track of my day's schedule, forget about shipping deadlines and supply order dates. I was quickly in over my head and way behind, so I knew I needed help. Making the transition from working on my own to becoming an employer was rocky. I learned a lot, but I made a lot of mistakes along the way. I created this site to share all of the tips I've picked up to ease that transition when you hire your first employee. Attracting the right talent is critical for a company's success, but that means making your job offerings stand out compared to other companies in your field. Fortunately, there are some ways you can tailor the jobs you offer to meet the varying needs of today's workforce. Here are some strategies you can use to boost your job postings and make employment with your business more desirable. 

Flexible Full-Time Jobs

Working professionals sometimes need some flexibility in their schedules while still maintaining full-time employment. This might be due to balancing work with family responsibilities or simply to strike a better work-life balance in general. Offering unique scheduling options, such as staggered start times or shorter workweeks can help make your company better able to meet the needs of talented candidates. A four-day workweek, for example, might be a great option to offer, as it gives your staff extra time to spend with family or pursue personal hobbies. Work with your HR staff to determine the different ways you can optimize work schedules for greater flexibility. 

Better Vacation Packages

Instead of meeting the minimum requirements for paid time off, consider adding extra days to the packages you offer. New hires get three or more weeks of paid vacation each year have the time they need to plan trips or take a much-needed break from work, and graduated vacation schedules mean staff can accrue even more paid time off the longer they are with your company. Of course, you'll need to make sure you have adequate staffing to accommodate the extra vacation time awarded to staff while keeping your office operations running smoothly. Your HR department can help you determine staffing needs and coverage while still providing plenty of paid time off to your employees. In addition to vacation, consider offering flexible time off, which can be used for everything from doctor's checkups to mental health days. 

Remote And Hybrid Options

The COVID-19 pandemic showed just how successful working from home can be for certain industries. If this is an option for your business, consider offering current staff and new hires the option to work remotely or on a hybrid schedule. Some candidates might be happy to come into the office every day, but providing the flexibility to adjust schedules makes it easier for staff to plan their work weeks while still maintaining a work-life balance. For example, an employee might opt to work from home for a week while work is done at his or her home. This lets them be present while contractors are working without missing time from work. Providing flexibility can make your company seem like a better fit than those requiring staff to be in the office every day.
