What Happens If You Don't Clean Your Air Conditioner Regularly?

Try to imagine getting through a sweltering summer day without access to a functional air conditioner. The thought is enough to strike fear in the heart of any homeowner.

You may be putting your air conditioner at risk and not even realize it if you aren't cleaning your unit regularly. A dirty air conditioner can lead to the development of serious performance issues that could put your AC unit out of commission.

Condenser Fins

Contrary to popular belief, air conditioners don't actually generate cool air. Instead, they remove heat from the existing air, which lowers air temperature. The heat collected from the air is then released back into the outdoor environment. Condenser fins are responsible for helping to dissipate this heat.

The condenser fins are located along the outer walls of the outdoor condenser unit. Dirt, leaves, and other types of debris can easily become lodged between condenser fins. This impedes the dissipation of heat and can cause your air conditioner's blower motor to overheat and fail.

Regular AC cleaning ensures proper heat dissipation and protects the blower motor against heat-related damage.

Bearings

Inside the blower motor housing are bearings that must be maintained to keep your air conditioner running efficiently. If these bearings become too dirty, they can begin to fail. Dirt particles can etch the surface of the bearings.

A buildup of grime within the blower motor housing can contribute to ineffectual bearing movement. This can slow the blower fan, causing your air conditioner to stop pushing air through your home.

Cleaning out the blower motor housing often and greasing the bearings can ensure that your air conditioner is ready to cool your home on the hottest of summer days.

Ducts

Air ducts are an important part of your air conditioning system. The ducts provide a pathway for cool air to move from the air conditioner into each room within your home. Many homeowners overlook the importance of cleaning their air ducts on a regular basis. If you let your ducts become too dirty, it can compromise the quality of the air within your home.

Any family members who suffer from asthma, allergies, or other respiratory problems can experience a worsening of their symptoms when dust particles and other contaminants from within the air ducts are pushed into the home along with cool air.

Having ducts professionally cleaned often will ensure you aren't breathing in contaminants as you cool your home. For more information, contact a company like Modern PURAIRĀ®
